Elvia AS is Norway's largest electricity distribution company, serving nearly two million people. The company owns and is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and investments in the regional grid and the majority of the distribution grid in Oslo, Innlandet, Akershus, and Østfold.

How Elvia Modernized its Documentation Using Readin Document Portal and SharePoint

Over time, Elvia developed an extensive library of technical documentation for its electricity network. Contractors and subcontractors rely on this material when installing, maintaining, and upgrading infrastructure under strict safety and quality requirements.

Finding the right document was difficult

Previously, readers had to navigate SharePoint to find documents stored in Word, PDF, Excel, and HTML formats. Finding the right information was time-consuming, and the experience wasn't well suited to phones or tablets.

Readin Document Portal

Elvia wanted to improve access for readers while making publication easier for authors. It chose Readin.

Authors continue to write and maintain documents in Microsoft Word and SharePoint. When a document is ready, they publish it directly to Elvia's online library using the Readin SharePoint integration.

Users, including installers, contractors, and subcontractors, can search, filter, and read the documents directly in the browser without the need for additional software.

Metadata filters make it easier to narrow down results. Registered readers can follow documents, receive update notifications, add bookmarks and comments, and contact authors. The portal works on computers, tablets, and phones.

A more efficient, reader-friendly library

Elvia now has an efficient online library for governing and technical documentation with a user-focused approach. The solution ensures simple and secure content management and updates, as well as:

  • Faster publishing that saves time and money.
  • Less internal IT work to operate and maintain the library.
  • Readers spend less time finding the right documents.
  • Documents are available on all devices, such as mobile phones, tablets, and PCs.
  • Users are notified when important documents are updated.
  • Errors and improvements can be reported by users directly within the document.
  • Documents have a consistent, professional presentation.

The new portal gives internal and external readers a consistent way to access published technical and governing documentation, wherever they work.

It also gives Elvia a foundation for further improvements to digital documentation.
