When the skydiving division of the Norwegian Air Sports Federation (NLF) wanted to replace its PDF handbooks, it chose Readin. Skydivers and instructors can now read handbooks and regulations on their phones, tablets, or computers, and receive notifications when a document they follow is updated.

Skydiver

NLF is Norway's national organization for air sports. Its skydiving division (F/NLF) coordinates training for skydivers and instructors.

Introduction

The skydiving division publishes a handbook covering safety, equipment, and training. It sets out the rules governing F/NLF activities and helps the organization meet its obligations to regulators and industry bodies.

Challenge

Skydivers and instructors need reliable access to current rules and safety guidance. The handbook is central to that work.

Previously, the handbook was published as PDFs on F/NLF's website. They were cumbersome to read on mobile devices, and every update required someone to create new PDF files and upload them manually.

“Readin document portal makes it easier and more inviting to understand and navigate to our regulations. This applies to both less experienced individuals who need to read for their theory exams, and to more experienced individuals, such as instructors, who use it as a reference.”

Knut Lien, F/NLF

Solution

F/NLF wanted to simplify publishing and make the handbook easier to read. With Readin, it replaced its PDF-based approach with a web-based document portal.

F/NLF writes its handbooks in Microsoft Word and manages the files in SharePoint. With the Readin SharePoint extension, authors can preview the web version and publish it with a click.

Readers can search across documents, add comments and bookmarks, follow revision history, and receive update notifications. They can also flag errors or suggest improvements directly to document owners. The content works across phones, tablets, and computers.

A personal dashboard brings together comments, bookmarks, recently viewed documents, and updates.

Because Readin is delivered as a SaaS product, F/NLF does not need to host and maintain the portal itself.
