How to improve document portals with AI
Jan 16, 2024
AI can make document portals more useful by summarizing information and explaining changes between versions. But its output still needs to be reviewed. This article describes Docstream's work on these features at the time of writing.

Docstream had been exploring how AI could help document authors and readers, while also considering the risks involved.
The first planned features were AI-generated summaries and document comparisons.
Summarizing a document
AI-generated summaries analyze a document, identify its main ideas, and present them in a concise overview.
When a document is published or updated, Readin can create a summary. Publishers can choose a format and edit the result before publication. Readers see the summary when they open the document.
Comparing document versions
The comparison feature analyzes two versions of a document and describes what changed. It can present the differences as prose or in a structured overview. Publishers can review and edit the result before making it available.
Readers can view the comparison alongside the document in Readin.
Reviewing AI-generated content
AI-generated content can contain mistakes. For these publishing features, a person reviews and approves the results before readers see them.
